Reading Day 2025
As part of the Reading Day celebrations commemorating the birth anniversary of P.N. Panicker, the pioneer of the literacy movement in Kerala, a Newspaper Reading Competition was organized at St Thomas Residential School, Mukkolakkal on 19th June 2025. The event aimed to promote the habit of regular newspaper reading among students and to enhance their general awareness and public speaking skills. The competition was conducted in the school Library and have witnessed enthusiastic participation from students. Students from classes V to XII actively participated in the competition. Participants were asked to read selected news articles covering a range of topics including national news, environmental issues, politics, science and technology, sports and inspiring stories. The competition was judged by Mrs. Reji S S, Mrs. Teena Tiji, Mrs. Lisa Thomas, Mrs. Divya Elsy Mathews, Mrs. Navya Reeba John, Mrs. Ancy Mariam Abraham, Mrs. Aleena John and Mrs. Shaeba Sara Roy who evaluated the students based on clarity, pronunciation, confidence, content understanding, voice modulation and confidence. Reading Day was not just a commemoration but a reaffirmation of the belief that “Read and Grow,” as advocated by P.N. Panicker. The initiative not only celebrated Reading Day in a meaningful way but also motivated students to make newspaper reading a daily habit.
